Eat food, not too much, mostly plants…
For most people, good health would be as easy as eating right and getting sufficient rest and excercise. Unfortunately, our social and culture environment has made this very difficult. It will become easier as we grow in Wisdom, but in the meantime this motto from Michael Pollan’s In Defense of Food provides a good point of departure toward better health:
Eat food, not too much, mostly plants…
We must learn to distinguish between real, honest to goodness food, and all the edible food like substances that have hijacked our appetites. For some of us, this will be very difficult–our culture has made it very difficult! Insofar as we are able, however, we must take responsibility for our health and work to make this easier for our children and grandchildren.
We can begin, today, by learning this truth and sharing it– by precept and example –-with the next generation: Eat food, not too much, mostly plants…
